On December 9, 2024, the United States District Court for the District of North Dakota issued a preliminary injunction in Kansas v. United States of America, halting Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients’ ability to enroll in a Qualified Health Plan (QHP) through the Health Insurance Marketplace® in Kansas and 18 other Republican-led states involved in the lawsuit. This decision impacts thousands of DACA recipients, including over 4,300 living in Kansas, leaving many uncertain about their access to affordable healthcare.
CareArc is deeply committed to providing high-quality healthcare to all individuals, regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay. While this court decision affects DACA recipients’ access to insurance through the Marketplace, CareArc remains a steadfast resource for healthcare services for everyone in our community, including DACA recipients.
"Healthcare is a fundamental need, and at CareArc, we believe that everyone deserves access to compassionate and affordable care, no matter what their background or circumstances are," said Renee Hively, CEO at CareArc. "We will continue to see all patients, regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay, and work with them to ensure they receive the care they need."
CareArc offers a sliding fee scale for eligible patients, ensuring affordable care for individuals and families without insurance. For those impacted by this decision, CareArc encourages patients to reach out to our team to discuss their healthcare needs and available financial assistance options.
DACA, established during the Obama administration, provides deferred status to individuals brought to the U.S. as children. This recent court ruling blocks efforts to extend Marketplace insurance access to DACA recipients, emphasizing the importance of local healthcare providers like CareArc in filling the gap.
The Health Insurance Marketplace® is currently reviewing the court’s decision and its implications for consumers, including those who have already selected a QHP or planned to do so. Additional updates are expected soon.
